In Person Real Estate Dinner with Sonny Kalsi, CEO of BentallGreenOak
Sonny Kalsi is the CEO of BentallGreenOak (BGO) and is based in New York City. BGO is a global real estate investment and management platform with approximately $53 billion of assets under management. BGO has 24 offices worldwide (North America, Europe, and Asia) and over 1,300 employees. The firm manages investment strategies and properties in various asset and risk classes.
Sonny previously was a Founder of GreenOak Real Estate in 2010 and together with the team built the business organically to $12 billion of assets under management in 10 countries with over 100 employees. Before GreenOak, Sonny was Global Co-Head of Morgan Stanley's Real Estate Investing (MSREI) business and President of Morgan Stanley Real Estate Funds until 2009. At its peak, the platform had approximately $100 billion of assets under management in 33 countries. During his 18-year career at Morgan Stanley, Sonny spent almost 10 years in Asia and has lived and worked in six different locations around the world.
Sonny is a graduate of Georgetown University and continues to be very involved with the school. He has been cited by Private Equity Real Estate magazine as one fo the "30 Most Influential" people in private equity real estate globally. Sonny is on the board of several charitable organizations including Teaching Matters, Room to Read, SparkYouth NYC, Asia Society, and the Hirshhorn Museum. He is a Trustee of the Spence School, board member of Oberoi Realty, and Georgetown University. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University in the Master of Real Estate Program.
As Chairman, NY Investment Sales with JLL Capital Markets, Bob co-leads the investment sales division in New York City. Bob was Chairman and Founding Partner of Massey Knakal Realty Services, New York’s #1 building sales firm. He started his real estate career in 1984 at CB Richard Ellis where he met Paul J. Massey Jr. They both left CB in 1988 to form Massey Knakal. From 1988 through 2014, Massey Knakal closed over 6,000 transactions with an aggregate value in excess of $23 billion. To date, Bob has been personally responsible for the sale of over 2,100 buildings (generally considered to be the highest total ever for a single broker in New York) and over $18 billion in sales. With respect to development sites, Bob has personally handled the sale of over 250 development site transactions totaling over $7 billion in sales.
In 2014, Cushman & Wakefield acquired Massey Knakal. At Cushman & Wakefield, Bob acted as Chairman of New York Investment Sales. He was ranked the top originating investment sales broker at Cushman & Wakefield, globally, in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Bob joined JLL in September of 2018.

called Concrete Thoughts for the Commercial Observer.
Minta Kay is a partner in and chair of Goodwin’s Real Estate Industry group and a member of its Real Estate Joint Ventures, Real Estate Finance and Hospitality & Leisure practices. For more than 30 years, Ms. Kay has represented institutional investors, tax-exempts, real estate funds and owner/operators in connection with all aspects of their real estate investment transactions. She regularly advises clients on joint venture formation and restructuring, senior and junior debt origination, acquisition and restructuring, portfolio transactions, development transactions, and property sales and acquisitions.
Minta is also a leader in Goodwin’s PropTech Initiative, which is focused on supporting the intersection of Real Estate and Technology through thoughtful collaboration across the two practice areas. As a key member of the PropTech Steering Committee, Minta is responsible for driving strategy across the two groups to effectively support clients involved in the emerging subsector. Some of these initiatives include participation in key industry events, providing thought leadership, and offering important client service initiatives to empower investment and growth across both markets. Minta’s keen understanding of the importance of connecting real estate and technology clients, paired with her collaborative nature, allows for even more natural synergy between these two practices.
Mr. Grinis is the Americas Real Estate, Hospitality & Construction Leader for the firm’s $2 Billion-dollar real estate business with over 17,000 professionals worldwide. The practice is the leading provider of Assurance, Tax, Strategy and Transactions, and Consulting services to the real estate industry.
Prior to this his current role, Mr. Grinis has served in several leadership positions for the firm, including the firm’s real estate Private Equity practice, M&A and Restructuring group, Central Region practice leader, and head of the Transaction Real Estate Group.
Mr. Grinis has over 30 years of experience and has served as a lead advisor on over $75 billion of transactions, and as the lead audit partner for several real estate funds with aggregate assets under management in excess of $100 billion.
He is currently leading the digital transformation initiatives for the firm’s real estate business including working with the firm’s alliances partners in the development of new technology-based solutions and transformative business processes.
While living in Japan for seven years, Mr. Grinis was the managing partner for EY’s Asian Real Estate practice. His clients included the leading securities firms, the Japanese government and the largest city banks and insurance companies.
He has advised various ministries of finance, central banks and legislative committees for eight countries on strategies to address non-performing assets and the banking sector.
Mr. Grinis is also a sought-after speaker for all forms of media, including Bloomberg, CNBC, Fox News and NBC Nightly News. He also has authored numerous articles and blogs on various real estate subject matters from the real estate markets to disruption and the role of technology. He has also co-authored “The Guide to Distress Debt and Turnaround Investing,” and EY’s annual report, “Global Market Outlook: Trends in Real Estate Private Equity”.
Alan Isenstadt serves as Senior Vice President & Head of NYC and Philadelphia markets for KeyBank Real Estate Capital where he has successfully elevated over his nearly 10 year career with the Bank.
Based in New York City, Mr. Isenstadt is responsible for providing financing and capital raising solutions for owners and investors of commercial real estate. As a member of Key’s Income Property Group, he manages a team responsible for the structuring and origination of on-balance sheet and capital markets financing for real estate projects across the U.S. Throughout his tenure at KeyBank, Alan has served in other capacities working in the Bank’s Institutional Real Estate Group, Debt Capital Markets and Syndicated Finance divisions. KeyBank N.A. (NYSE: KEY) has approximately $175 Billion in total assets and provides a wide range of retail, corporate and investment banking solutions to clients.
Prior to joining KeyBank, Mr. Isenstadt worked in the Commercial Development Group for Forest City Realty Trust (NYSE: FCE.A) an $8bn real estate investment trust. Mr. Isenstadt currently serves on the Access NYC Board of Directors for the American Jewish Committee and is active in several industry groups including NMHC and MBA. Mr. Isenstadt holds an undergraduate degree from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois and a Masters of Science in Real Estate Finance at The Henley Business School, University of Reading in the United Kingdom.
