YJP is excited to host Steve Pierson, Managing Partner at Lovell Minnick Partners.

Lovell Minnick is a private equity firm who invests in management-driven, growth-oriented financial services companies in FinTech, InsureTech, payments, insurance brokerage and services, wealth and asset management, and related business services. 

Prior to Lovell Minnick, Steve was Head of FIG Investment Banking Americas and Global Head of Financial Technology & Services at UBS. Prior to that, Steve served as Vice Chairman and Co-Head of FIG Investment Banking Americas at Credit Suisse.

Steven Pierson
Managing Partner at Lovell Minnick Partners

Steve joined Lovell Minnick Partners in 2016 and is a Managing Partner. Steve chairs the firm’s Partner Committee and is a member of the Investment Committee. He came to the firm from UBS, where he most recently served as the Head of FIG Investment Banking Americas and Global Head of Financial Technology & Services. He was also a member of the investment committee for the UBS FinTech Strategic Investment Group. Prior to joining UBS in 2013, Steve served as Vice Chairman and Co-Head of FIG Investment Banking Americas at Credit Suisse, which he joined in 2007. He began his investment banking career at Putnam Lovell Securities, where LMP was incubated, in 1995 where he rose to become head of its investment banking division.

Steve is a member of the Boards of Directors of Omni Healthcare Financial, oneZero Financial, National Auto Care, SRS Acquiom, and Trea Asset Management, and serves on the Advisory Council of the Pamplin School of Business at Virginia Tech. He earned his M.B.A. from the Fuqua School at Duke University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance & Management with a minor in English from Virginia Tech University.

Kevin Shmelzer
Partner at Morgan Lewis

Kevin S. Shmelzer combines his skills as a lawyer and his prior experience as a certified public accountant to address corporate and securities matters. As deputy practice area leader of the firm’s global private equity practice, Kevin advises private equity funds and their portfolio companies on structuring and negotiating complex business deals. In addition, Kevin works on global mergers and acquisitions (M&A), special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) transactions, public and private debt and equity offerings (including IPOs), investments, divestitures, joint ventures, corporate governance, and general representations of public and private companies. He also has experience in roll-up, corporate carve-out and distressed transactions.

Kevin represents public and private clients in a number of fields, including the energy, technology, banking, life sciences, retail, utilities, healthcare, manufacturing, fintech, digital health, and sports industries. Kevin is a member of the firm’s SPAC Task Force.

In addition to serving as outside counsel for his clients, Kevin previously served as the acting general counsel of Taminco Global Chemical Corporation upon Apollo Global Management’s acquisition of Taminco (at such time, the company had $1.1 billion in revenues and 750 employees in 18 countries). Kevin managed all legal aspects of the company’s operations, including primary responsibility for corporate governance and board secretarial duties, strategic alliances, joint ventures, acquisitions, commercial matters, litigation and claims, financings, subsidiary management, intellectual property, purchasing, employment, sales, and marketing compliance matters. That experience allows him to bring a unique perspective to the business and financial aspects of the transactions he works on.
