Shannon Higginson is a seasoned executive in consumer-facing industries. She is General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer and a member of the senior leadership team of lululemon athletica inc. [NASDAQ:LULU], a designer, distributor, and retailer of healthy lifestyle inspired athletic apparel and accessories. Lululemon has over 521 corporate owned stores and over 25,000 employees in 17 countries.
At lululemon, Shannon has helped to build the legal services function from the ground up, starting with a team of two and growing to a global team in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Seattle, Vancouver and Toronto. During this time lululemon has grown from $1B to over $4B in revenues and expanded its store footprint from 5 countries to 17 around the globe. Shannon reports to the Chief Executive Officer and is a member of the senior leadership team which sets the company’s strategic priorities. Shannon currently leads the company’s Legal, Privacy, and Compliance functions. She has also previously led the company’s Asset Protection (interim) and Sustainability Functions. Shannon’s pragmatic, collaborative and confidence-inspiring approach has helped to lead the company through rapid international growth.
Shannon earned her JD from the University of Victoria and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia.
Susan Natland advises on all aspects of domestic and international brand protection and enforcement, advertising law, unfair competition, copyright, and data privacy and security matters. By investing the necessary time to understanding her client’s business and specific goals, Susan delivers solutions that maximize efficiencies and opportunities. Responsive, accountable and results-oriented, Susan is dedicated to serving as both a trusted legal and business advisor.
Susan is Co-Chair of the firm’s Trademark and Brand Protection Group. Her practice includes domestic and foreign trademark selection and clearance, trademark procurement and prosecution, ex parte and inter partes proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), trademark audits, licensing, domain name disputes, counterfeit goods and customs, copyrights, entertainment law, rights of publicity, and trademark and copyright enforcement and litigation. A hands-on advocate for her client’s rights, Susan has even personally attended raids of counterfeit goods warehouses in China. Susan was appointed by the Secretary of Commerce and currently serves as a Vice-Chair of the Trademark Public Advisory Committee (TPAC) which advises the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and the Director of the USPTO on matters relating to the policies, goals, performance, budget, and user fees of the USPTO. Susan is also extremely active in the International Trademark Association (INTA), has served as Chair if its Enforcement Committee, among other roles, and is currently on the INTA Presidential Task Force.
Chair of the firm’s Data Privacy and Security Group and a certified data privacy specialist by the International Association of Privacy Professionals, Susan also offers clients honed skill in advising on data privacy and data security compliance and procedure, data breach response, online privacy, mobile privacy, advertising and promotions, and social media. Susan is also a registered patent attorney.
