Heidi is the global chair of Cooley’s insurance practice group and is an in-demand lawyer for her
international perspective and deep knowledge of the insurance and financial services industry. Heidi
started in insurance operations, and over the course of her career, she has developed a breadth of
experience representing clients in a wide range of insurance and financial services legal work.
Heidi is an experienced transactional and regulatory lawyer focused on the intersection of insurance and
technology. She is regularly sought after for her insights on insurance regulatory compliance and
innovative product and distribution development by insurtech, fintech, shared economy, venture capital,
private equity, and traditional and non-traditional insurance industry players. Heidi and her team have
been involved in a range of insurance transactions, including forming insurance companies, managing
general agents (MGAs), captives, mergers & acquisitions, and initial public offerings, and developing new
insurance and financial services products, including parametric. Heidi also has held a number of advisory
and board positions at several insurtech and fintech companies.
In addition to her transactional and regulatory practice, Heidi advises clients on significant and complex
insurance coverage matters, including transactional insurance (representations and warranty, tax,
litigation buyout, credit insurance and intellectual property collateral insurance) and a broad range of
other coverages (private equity, venture capital, general liability, directors and officers, employment
practices liability, marine, product liability, cyber and crypto). She also frequently represents parties
involved in bankruptcy proceedings in connection with the identification, utilization and recovery of
insurance assets.
Before practicing law, Heidi worked in insurance sales, claims and underwriting, earning the Chartered
Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and the Associate in Management (AIM) designations. She also
spent part of her career working at the Financial Conduct Authority in London. Heidi has been recognized
by Chambers USA and New York Super Lawyers and is often quoted in The Wall Street Journal,
Financial Times, Bloomberg, The Economist and other business media.
