HarbourVest is a private markets firm with $98bn+ AUM. The firm has been investing for four decades across primary, secondary, direct co-investments, infrastructure and real assets, and private credit.

This will be a moderated Zoom roundtable, featuring insights from John, and an opportunity for Q&A.

John Toomey
Managing Director, CEO at HarbourVest Partners

John Toomey is one of two members of the Firm’s Executive Management Committee, which serves as HarbourVest’s CEO; and is also a member of the Portfolio Construction Committee. He first joined the Firm in 1997, as a member of the direct investment team. He rejoined HarbourVest in 2001 after business school, and has focused on secondary investments since 2003. John was involved with the 2007 initial public offering of HarbourVest Global Private Equity Limited (HVPE) on Euronext Amsterdam and served as Chief Financial Officer from the IPO through September 2008.

John’s previous experience includes an analyst role at Smith Barney in the Advisory Group focusing on mergers and acquisitions and corporate restructurings.

John received a BA (cum laude) in Chemistry and Physics from Harvard University in 1995 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 2001, where he was awarded the Loeb Fellowship for outstanding achievement in finance.

Nigel Dawn
Senior Managing Director at Evercore

Nigel Dawn is a senior managing director and head of Evercore’s Private Capital Advisory Group.

With a team based in the United States, Europe, and Singapore, Mr. Dawn is responsible for originating, developing and managing secondary market transactions for owners and managers of private financial assets seeking liquidity in the secondary market. Mr. Dawn has represented public pensions, university endowments, financial institutions, public quoted investment vehicles and other owners of private financial assets.

Prior to joining Evercore, Mr. Dawn was the global co-head of the private funds group at UBS Investment Bank, where he was responsible for founding and leading the secondary market advisory business globally, and before that, for the bank’s investments in private equity funds. Earlier in his career, he worked in international commercial banking with Standard Chartered Bank and as a management consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton in New York.

Mr. Dawn graduated with honours from the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne with a B.A. in politics and East Asian studies, and earned his MBA from the Columbia Business School.

Elazar Guttman advises private equity firms and their portfolio companies on a wide variety of domestic and cross-border leveraged buyouts and other complex business transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, debt and equity financings, growth capital investments, joint ventures and in- and out-of-court restructurings.

His work has extended across numerous industries, including financial services, business services, health care, energy, technology, automotive, manufacturing and retail, among others.

Elazar also has extensive experience representing public and private companies in M&A transactions, recapitalizations, in- and out-of-court financial restructurings and other debt and equity financings.
